Axiom Percussion is an small guild of drum geeks, percussion junkies and master craftsmen who set out over a decade ago on a quest for the "holy grail" of drum instrumentology. In the history of our association, we've just about covered every conceivable custom configuration imaginable in the custom drum building world and have reached a single unified conclusion, an axiom if you will: Nothing sounds quit as good as an solid wood snare drum!

We are drummers building drums, for drummers. We manifest our combined knowledge of drums, drumming and drum making in our product by never straying from our original directive; to build the best sounding snare drums in the world.

Available drums

5.5"x14 Bubinga Stave







  • .5" thick solid wood shell

Description: A strikingly beautiful instrument with very rich grain. The masterfully cut, book-matched joints are near invisible to the eye. The shell is 0.5" thick solid Bubinga with a two layer steam bent African Mahogany reinforcement ring. The sound of this drum very loud but also very focused. The shell was cut with an offset double 45° "sharp" edge for more sensitivity and wetter tone. The snare beds are cut .09" deep and run approximately 7.5" wide. As with all solid wood shell snare drums, rim clicks and rim shots are absolutely amazing. This snare drum in particular is no exception. A full mp3 and video portfolio is coming soon which will include samples of this drum's sound in many different applications including different tunings and playing styles.

New Arrivals

Below is a list of snare drums in their final stages of construction. These drums are about to be drilled and assembled and will have media portfolios uploaded for your browsing and be ready for sale with in a week or so.

Steam Bent European Beech

This is a 5.5" x 14" single ply with single ply solid bent reinforcement rings. The finish is clear gloss lacquer. This drum is almost ready. The gloss finish is being worked on right now. The final bearing edge is uncut but will most likely be a double 45 sharp. I'm thinking black chrome hardware for this baby. I plan on having this drum completed and media uploaded with in a week or so. beech is a very dense wood similar to maple and it looks very similar. This is sure to be a beauty.

Ambrosia Maple cross-grain stave

This drum is gonna turn some heads. It's a 6.5" x 13" stave shell configuration but the staves were cut cross grain instead of with the grain so the streaking anomalies associated with Ambrosia Maple are in tack around the diameter of the drum. This also allows the bearing edges to be cut on the cross grain like a steam bent shell so it's like a hybrid steambent/stave.

Birds Eye Maple Stave

This drum is nearing completion. It's a 6" x 13" stave shell (0.375" +/- thick) with a nice heavy birds eye pattern. The stock was taken some time around 2003 near Ishpeming, MI in MI's upper peninsula. It has a nice gloss lacquer finish and will feature our 2 layer, steam-bent solid wood reinforcement ring made from the same species.
